Healing Camp is up there on the list of must watch Joo Won interviews. It reminded me of Joo Won’s interview on Win Win in 2012. It shows us what makes Joo Won the actor, the star, the son and the man whom fans, co-stars, team mates, PDs and all who crossed his path admire and adore. As you watch this, you will also understand why reporters and interviewers get charmed off their feet by Joo Won. The word they always use is sincere. It can’t be a trait unique to Joo Won or conversely, does it mean others are less sincere? I think it is the way Joo Won opens up his heart, is candid with his views. shares his innermost thoughts and does them all in the most sincere and heartwarming manner that made such a deep impression on these seasoned reporters and interviewers.

When I watched Healing Camp with Chinese subs, I was so excited and emotional that I declared on soompi that Joo Won Cutie will get this subbed in English for fans to enjoy. It was irresponsible of me because I didn’t ask the team if they would do it. I was prepared to translate the entire 74 minutes long video myself in that haze of excitement. So much that I forgot I don’t do typsetting, timing nor encoding. So, I am thankful that my team agreed to do this mammoth project. I am sure they had thought of doing it anyway but would have approached it in a more democratic manner. It took 2 months to get this project completed although it felt like forever to the sub team.
Soon after I opened my mouth, I realized I needed someone who understands Korean to translate. There are several ‘sensitive’ parts which are best translated by someone whose native tongue is Korean or has a good command of the language and knows the cultural or linguistic nuances. For this, I am very thankful to sdee who couldn’t translate for us but took precious time off her schedule to proof read and edit. I owe a big thank you to sagaseed whom I threw into the deep end, this being her first video translation project. She is amazing, I really don’t know how she can translate while watching the video on her mobile. This video would not be possible without the efforts of ecs707a and farbarri a.k.a hana_joowon. Not only were they our timers, typesetters and encoders, they were also our editors, with a keen ear and eye for things which didn’t seem quite right. We hope you will enjoy this video as much as we did.

Before Yong Pal aired, I translated a synopsis on Chinese Baidu which was translated from SBS official page for the drama. Here’s the excerpt:
Although Chief Surgeon Lee witnessed the police chasing after Yong Pal and discovered Yong Pal/Tae Hyun’s real identity, he saved him instead.
Because Chief Lee has some other motives up his sleeves….so our Tae Hyun has become “Alice”, dragged by Chief Lee into the trickery that is happening in the weird world on the 12th floor of Hanshin Hospital.
This didn’t cross my mind again until our Korean translator brought it up. I told her about the mixed reactions international viewers have towards to change in plot from action for the first 6 episodes to a revenge driven story line in a bizarre chaebol world. She pointed out that it has always been in the synopsis from Day 1 and the reference to Tae Hyun as “Alice” in <Alice In Wonderland>.
@bjvip2uty on soompi Yong Pal thread did a marvelous job in penning down the symbols and inferences found in <Alice In Wonderland> and its sequel <Through The Looking Glass> and their relation to Yong Pal.
When the Alice in Wonderland reference was brought up I started taking mental notes of little things I saw in Yongpal that reminded me of the book. Yeah, this is how I try to deal with Yongpal withdrawal.

@gilaswan created a fantastic timeline of events in Yong Pal which might help you in watching Yong Pal. Some viewers have a problem understanding the amount of time that passed between events. For example, one rant was that Tae Hyun was so absorbed with Yeo Jin that he plain forgotten about his sister Seo Hyun. The timeline will show that 3 days elapsed from when Tae Hyun got up from hospital bed to him going back to settle Seo Hyun’s overseas treatment.
Day 0 Show starts with TH out on a housecall. He returns to the hospital thereafter.

10.10,1015 Joo Won Fan Meeting for Yong Pal
This is the day which I will remember for my whole life. I was finally able to meet Joo Won in real life although it was not as smooth as I wished to be. Nevertheless,who am I to complain? I am just so glad to see him.Almost upclose. Although there are 4 or 5 heads blocking in front of me.
Preparation for the day
I have a lot of ideas about gifts for Joo Won.A lot. But I was not able to do much due to my schedule. So in the end,I decided that I should just give him a jacket .So this is the one that I bought for him. And I added the 2 DIY movable eyes on the right side.Hopefully, he doesn’t mind.

“Restricted Area” question which got answered without hesitation. “Hallyu Top 5 New Kings” Joo Won talked about his relationships: His date is his ideal marriage partner!
Very tall, with deep set dimples when he smiles, recently through <Gang Doctor> which garnered top ratings in Korea(it was also the top show on Starhub in Singapore), hugely popular lead actor Joo Won came to Singapore with his drama “sister” Park Hye Soo for a fan meet.
Joo Won appeared in western attire. In real person, he was very friendly, slightly bashful and perhaps due to the language barrier, he didn’t give much eye contact to the reporter or interpreter.
He would always incline his head, earnestly listened to the beautiful interpreter’s questions, pondered over them carefully and then gave detailed answers. His responses were very sincere.
Reporter was brave enough to ask him a question on “dream girl”. Private life questions are typically taboo for Hallyu stars, especially when it’s about relationships. The publicist at his side, who bore the responsibility, smiled and reminded that this “cannot be asked”. Who knew, Joo Won who does not speak English, understood the reporter’s key words “dream girl” (ideal partner). Although the reporter intruded into the “Restricted Area” for questions, Joo Won actually laughed and answered magnanimously.
“It’s hard to get into a relationship. When I see someone I like, I step back instead and carefully observe whether the other party is suitable for me. Is she the right one? I will think a lot. But if I have someone I like, dating is the prerequisite to marriage. To me, the one I date should be my marriage ideal. Because there are two sons in my family, I hope that my other half can get along with my parents just like a daughter would.
The reporter praised him for being a ‘good man’ and immediately gave him more points.
Through <Gang Doctor>’s fiery ratings, Joo Won got billed as “Hallyu Top 5 New Kings” together with Lee Min Ho, Lee Jong Suk, Ji Chang Wook and Kim Woo Bin. How does he feel about being promoted to “Hallyu New King”?
Joo Won answered earnestly: “I do not know how I got this title. Of course I would be happy. My life hasn’t changed, I will still focus on filming. But the expectations from the outside world would be raised and thus the pressure on me will be huge. But, I am still me, no change.”
Meeting Joo Won, I realized that he who’s a cut above the rest, does not have a slightest bit of arrogance.

Joo Won’s press conference to promote Yong Pal with ONE TV Asia was held in a private dining room within Mitzo Restaurant & Bar. The room had been cleared of its tables and in their place a small stage was set up with the ONE TV Asia Yong Pal backdrop. There were an estimated 40-50 people in the room, mostly from the press with some from ONE TV Asia’s media partners such as Starhub and Singtel.
At 3pm, Joo Won arrived through a side door to the room (one wonders if that door actually led to the stair well or some service passage because it was essentially the “exit” from the room) with Park Hye Soo, their interpreter (who was very pretty!) and ONE TV Asia’s host for the afternoon. The session started with the usual pleasantries – it was his first trip to Singapore apparently, and Park Hye Soo’s second (she had visited with her family before).
